Join me this October!
Hey!
There are two events I wanted to make sure that you know are coming up.
YEGPodfest
YEGPodfest is presented by Edmonton Community Foundation, and is a collaboration between LitFest and the Alberta Podcast Network. I just joined the Board at LitFest and I am so pleased to be hosting a live podcast event with the hosts from “Is This For Real?” podcast.
The perspective I’ve gained from this podcast has been paradigm-shifting. So often we are hearing stories out of the United States, but the local realities of racism often escape us. Register and join us for this free live event on October 3.
LEAF Edmonton Persons Day Breakfast
I have been on the local Women’s Education Action Fund executive for a number of years. This is the event that keeps me engaged throughout the year! It is our annual breakfast fundraiser and this year, it is going to look a little different because we have moved online. The upside is that you can now join from wherever you are! Tickets as low as $5 for student or low income individuals.
This year we have an amazing speaker, Dr. Val Napoleon. She will explore how the combined conditions of violence and the responses to sexualized, gendered violence have shaped the present day legal personhood of Indigenous women and girls from both an Indigenous legal perspective and from a Canadian legal perspective.
Indigenous issues are on everyone’s minds these days and this talk really helps you understand the important historical context at play in Canada. Tickets start at $5 for low income/student. Tickets on sale now.
